How things can change in no time…

Granted, it’s been quite awhile since I’ve last posted, though not for a lack of interesting things going on in Nura’s Eve career. I think a catching up would be in order, though I’m not even sure if anyone even reads this blog.

I should probably begin with what’s going on regarding FCON (fidelas constans). I had been concerned with what I was doing (or not doing) for fun in Eve, and due to an epiphany or two I decided to drop my director role in the executor corp as well as my alliance duties for a simpler and hopefully more fulfilling game life. A general rule for me is, if it feels like real life in a game then it’s not a game. My alt is the CEO in a research and industry corp that had been handling the capital ship BPO’s and so I also returned all of those assets as I left. Nura left with several other pilots and friends in my corp and we briefly joined Blue Republic.

If you don’t know about Red vs Blue its an interesting eve experiment. The Red Federation and Blue Republic are two corps that are under a perpetual wardec and pretty much accept anyone that wants to experience PvP. Its a pretty good intro for new eve pilots and gives a decent taste of what to expect in 0.0. The two corps are a few systems apart from one another, with the Blues headquartered in Alentene and the Reds HQ’d in Tourier. They have two basic rules, no podding and no ECM unless breaking up a station camp. There are two pocket systems where it’s a tournament style free for all that does 1v1 or small fleet on fleet. Hey will host prizes and formal events as well. There are at times wardecs outside of the red/blue agreement and when the red or blue war targets are I system then the two sides call for “purple status” and all fighting stops. At this point the reds and blues team up to take out the 3rd party war target together. Not a bad arrangement. The problems I saw were that its fairly basic and anyone that has done a fair bit of real 0.0 will get bored. The fc’s are at times new as well and lack some skills. Not all but seemed to be in the time zone I played in. There is also a time zone disparity and a tendency for the reds to blob the station rather than have a fun fight. Lastly the smack talk can get out of hand as you usually see in high sec.

So now I am taking an isk building break while I train in a new race of ships/weapons. I just finished access to the vagabond and since I already have HAC 4 for training for the zealot, I can jump right in with well established support skills for any t2 mod it needs. I just need seat time in it to adapt to a new pvp style that is a bit different that is used while flying amarr ships.

While I do this, I have applied to agony, looking to get back to provi. I like the culture in that region and am familiar with the systems. I also happen to like the near immediate hi sec access. The buddies ghat I left with are all joining IT and I am not ruling that out and may look to interview with them as well. A note to those interested in either of these fine alliances, be prepared to share your API keys, with IT requiring FULL API information to perform their due diligence and check out your background.

I intend to post more and not be such a slacker.

A versatile small gang null sec gatecamp

One of the thing I enjoy doing in null sec is system defense and limited pipe roaming. This does involve to a greater degree camping a gate, as the entry and exit points are where the majority of the action occurs. Naturally tactics in 0.0 differs greatly from hi or lo sec areas and is probably the least restrictive as well as the most tactically interesting.

The fleet size I prefer for this is one no larger than twelve or so. Bigger than that and comms gets crowded and individual mistakes start to hamper and slow down what needs to be a highly responsive fleet. There are a multitude of fleet compositions out there that vary as much as there are pilots but minimally there should be some basic ship types and ship configurations. There are variants of this that will change the makeup somewhat, such as a need for speed making a double bubble dictor preferable to a HIC, as well as a shield tanked, nano fit fleet. A slower fleet can emphasize a deeper tank and go with the more traditional armor tanked fleet be it as it may the particulars don’t radically change the basics.

protip. Don’t shoot the HIC.

Word filtered thru alliance channel that there was a friendly Goons apoc on the RORZ-H gate in KU5R-W being agressed; our guys quickly formed up within minutes and even though we were spread about 3-4 systems we rushed towards KU5R-W to assist. There were six reds engaging, and in the rush, we stagger landed on top of them. Probably a good thing, as it didn’t seem to spook them, and the numbers initially seemed fairly even. Unfortunately, they managed to get the apoc down before we could depress the DPS he was seeing, and we even lost a hurricane in the engagement, as he was first on the scene.

Now, at this time, the FC was on his way a second or two ahead of me; I was in my devoter, and given the fit, was fairly slow and bringing up the rear. As I warped in they had begun to spread out a little, but the FC called “BUBBLE UP ON CONTACT” and so as I landed, I popped the bubble, and managed to almost catch all of them in it.

Now, when you’re in a bubble, and are outmanned 2:1 by the time the HIC shows up, the thing to do is align the hell out away and light up your mwds to get distance. While doing so, maybe try and alpha the juicy T2 targets to make it worth the fight, pop a ship that’s deep into trouble, but the ONE thing you just don’t do in this situation is…….

….primary the HIC.
